New Writing Fellows Program,
2008-2009

In the fall of 2008 the University Writing Center plans to launch an Undergraduate Writing Fellows program aimed at helping to strengthen writing and revision practices in courses across the disciplines. Carefully selected and trained Undergraduate Writing Fellows will be linked to writing-intensive courses. Working in concert with W faculty, Fellows will encourage reflective writing and revising practices by responding to first drafts of student papers and offering one-on-one consultations.

This program will begin on a pilot basis with ten Writing Fellows. Faculty are encouraged to nominate talented student writers; they can also contact the University Writing Center if interested in working with a Fellow in one of their own W courses.

UConn undergraduates can find instructions on how to apply at writingcenter.uconn.edu. The process is competitive and successful applicants must commit 5-10 hours of work per week (at $10/hour), take a one-credit course on writing pedagogy, and attend regular staff meetings. The Fellowship also comes with a $500/semester stipend.

Please contact Kathleen Tonry, Associate Director, (Kathleen.Tonry@uconn.edu; 486-9104) or Tom Deans, Director (Tom.Deans@uconn.edu; 486-2807) if you have any questions or would like more information.
